SVCE held its first intra-college Model United Nations on the dates 5th June, 2022 & 6th June, 2022 and was conducted for a total of two days. Model United Nations, also known as MUN is a step toward strengthening the students’ knowledge of diverse social events that take place around the world. 26 delegates took part in the proceedings and were assigned countries (India, France, Russia, the USA, etc.) prior to the competition. Humanitarian crisis, education, refugee crisis, the Afghan crisis, and the military are a few of the topics that were discussed on the platform. Sufficient time was allocated to each delegate to express their views on the given issues. They also vocalized the strategic planning done in regard to the dispute on behalf of their respective countries. Representatives were allowed to raise questions and they aided each other to draft a resolution towards the end of the event.
Model United Nations (Model UN / MUN) is a simulation of United Nations procedures. Participants role-play as UN delegates and engage in negotiations, discussions and lively debates, the cornerstones of UN activity.
Model UN educates students about current events, international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. Along with knowledge of the world we live in, participants develop skills in public speaking and presentation,
persuasion, analysis of situations, research and critical thinking.
During simulations, participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation, or NGO, in a simulated session of an organ (committee) of the United Nations. This can be the Human Rights Council, the Security Council, the General
Assembly or any of the other United Nations bodies.
Participants become diplomats, researching a country, and proposing solutions to the problems of the day. Through debate, deliberation, and compromise delegates attempt to draft a United Nations resolution with clauses that address
and mitigate or resolve the stated issues. Delegates then face the challenge of getting their resolution passed by a majority within the committee they are simulating.
